Art as analysis, as analysis part 4
Art as analysis, as analysis part 4
4. Art is a definition of itself, as in Kosuths tautology. With every work claiming its own definition “This is what I call art!” An artist makes a thing into art; a viewer makes a thing as a work of art. You may perform a/the role by cooking for my family, but does this make you a chef? And without serious intention the role will not survive the delay.

5. Rheinhardts “Art is …” and “Art is not …” as a methodology contains the same circular (a=b, as well as b= -(-a)). If one attributes “Art is taste” then we automatically fall into subjectivity and opinion. If on the other hand “Art is art” it escapes and reaffirms its own tautology by the proclamation, the ‘Performative Act’, and is a return to the artist and his choice.

6. After each addition, subtraction, a decision is made. The artist chooses from different possibilities, leading to the next act. Finally, deciding, choosing, “it is art” (or not).
